This figure illustrates the result of 3D surface reconstruction for
quite a difficult scene showing the lunar dome Kies p.
Top: Original images (left) and simulated images obtained with the reconstructed
surface profile using the raytracing software POVRAY
(right). The evaluated regions were extracted from CCD images acquired
on September 30, 2002, and on January
12, 2003, after image registration. Middle: Reconstructed 3D surface
profile. The maximum altitude difference on the profile is 200 m. The effective
altitude of the dome, i. e. the average altitude difference between the
top of the dome and its environment, amounts to 160 m. The small crater
pit on top is only 30 m deep. Bottom: Rendered image of the lunar dome.
The z axis has been exaggerated by a factor of 20.
